Learning and Teaching Policy

The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School Learning and Teaching Policy

We deliver the learning requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for Early Years settings - September 2021.  This framework is in place to improve outcomes for under 5s.  It is derived from the 2006 Education Act.

The aim of our learning and teaching policy is to:

  • Ensure that all team members have a secure understanding of a child's development and set high expectations for their progress.
  • Ensure all children make good progress across all areas of learning.
  • Ensure that any concerns are reported and discussed to support the family and child.
  • Ensure that appropriate and interesting activities are planned for learning.
  • Ensure that in-the-moment-planning can react to a child's interest or ways of learning.
  • Ensure child achievement and progress is celebrated and children are proud of their learning.
  • Ensure children are excited by learning and show high levels of interest in learning.
  • Ensure children have a broad and balanced learning and social experience including learning about healthy-life styles, oral health, online safety, British values, good manners and appropriate behaviour.

Our process for managing learning and teaching:

  • We have an annual programme of learning experiences and events:
    • Winter e.g. Christmas, Lunar New Year, Lent, Lambing
    • Spring e.g. Easter, Planting, Mothering Sunday, May Day
    • Summer e.g. Sports Day, Fathering Day
    • Autumn e.g. Harvest, Diwali
  • We have a monthly planning framework for each set of learning experiences and events.
  • We have a weekly planning framework for each week.
  • We have a weekly timetable setting out the amount of time that we spend focusing on the different areas of learning.
  • We identify opportunities for in-the-moment planning, learning and teaching.
  • Every half term, we audit our planning, environment, and learning and teaching to ensure our provision is effective.

The Tots' Clubhouse Learning and Teaching Model

TOTS stands for...

  • Talking
  • Observing
  • Teamwork
  • Skills

We believe that...

  • Conversations develop language skills.
  • Listening, observing and thinking develop comprehension skills.
  • Teamwork develops positive relationships and social interactions.
  • Child-led learning and in-the-moment-planning means we can support your child's interests and teach them key skills through the way they learn.

We will look after your children the way that you would look after ours.

Your child will come to our home from home with clear academic goals and high expectations.
