We promote British values inline with section 78 of the Education Act 2002, Equality Act 2010, Teaching Standards and Prevent Strategy in the provision of spiritual, moral, social and cultural learning.
We encourage children to:
- develop self-esteem and self-confidence by supporting their independent learning and teamwork.
- develop a sense of right and wrong, respecting others and kindness by supporting their turn taking, following social rules and being kind to each other.
- develop an understanding of people who help us in public services e.g. Police, Fire Service, Doctors, Nurses etc by introducing them to service professionals and role play.
- develop respect for their own and others cultures, values and choices by participating in celebrations, festivals and preferences.
- develop an understanding of democracy and laws that are essential for wellbeing and safety e.g.making choices, voting, road safety etc by introducing them to service professionals and role play.
- develop acceptance and tolerance of other views, so not to discriminate, by sharing preferences and ideas, and through teamwork.
We will ensure that children:
- have a voice that is listened to by creating opportunities for children to voice their opinions e.g. Nursery School developments, themes, new projects etc.
- have access to a wide range of learning resources that help children understand British values including stories, role play and toys.
