Positive Behaviour Policy

The Tots' Clubhouse Positive Behaviour Policy

Our Approach to Promoting Positive Behaviour

At The Tots’ Clubhouse Nursery School we believe that children flourish best when they know how they are expected to behave. Children gain respect through interaction with caring adults who show them respect and value their individual personalities. Positive, caring, and polite behaviour will be encouraged and always praised in an environment where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their surroundings.

Children need to have set boundaries of behaviour for their own safety and the safety of their peers. Within the Nursery School we aim to set these boundaries in a way which helps the child to develop a sense of the significance of their own behaviour, both on their own environment and those around them. Restrictions on the child’s natural desire to explore and develop their own ideas and concepts are kept to a minimum.

We believe in a positive approach to managing behaviour and will ensure that all staff demonstrate as positive role models providing a key worker system enabling staff to build a strong and positive relationship with children and their families encouraging the staff working with the children to accept their responsibility for implementing the goals within this policy and are consistent.   We aim to provide a stimulating, inviting environment, in which children are encouraged to be helpful, polite, caring and understanding to others and recognise the individuality of all children in our care.  Our aim is to encourage self-regulation and self-discipline, consideration for each other, our surroundings and property.

We will ensure to:

  • Encourage children to recognise their own achievements and be proud of what they can do.
  • Work in partnership with parents by communicating openly.
  • Praise children and acknowledge their positive actions and attitudes, therefore ensuring that children see that we value and respect them.
  • Promote non-violence and encourage children to deal with conflict peacefully.
  • Encourage self-discipline and consideration for each other.
  • Focus on the behaviour and not child.
  • Give the child reassurance, verbal praise when the child reacts positively.
  • Encourage children to participate in a wide range of group activities to enable them to develop their social skills.
  • Be a step ahead and anticipate problems before they arise.
  • Encourage the child into a positive activity and praise all efforts.
  • Give clear but simple instructions.
  • All staff must be consistent.
  • Reward the child for appropriate behaviour.

.

There will be at least 1 staff member who will hold a level 2 qualification in Challenges in Children’s Behaviour and this named person will have overall responsibility for any challenges or concerning behaviour.
