24.2.24 Allergies - Allergens

Please can you check that the food you provide for your child (snacks, lunches and evening meals) does not contain nuts, sesame seeds or shellfish.  This also includes - 'may contain’ foods.

We have children and staff within the setting who have allergies, and many young children may not know they have allergies until they are exposed.  Please be mindful of others needs.

There are many brands from Lidl, Aldi and supermarket own brands, which contain allergens.

Often cheaper brands are made in factories that don’t separate the allergens.  This is how they are able to make them cheaper.  But, this means they become higher risk products.

We only provide food or messy play items that do not contain these allergens.  These are more expensive items.

Please only provide food that you have checked the packaging and know that they don’t contain nuts, sesame or shellfish.

Many items that you would think are safe are not:

  • Kelloggs Frosties - may contain peanuts
  • Aldi rice crispies - may contain peanuts, nuts, sesame, milk and soya
  • Nutella - contains hazelnuts
  • Dried fruit rolls - may contain nuts, peanuts and sesame
  • Aldi fruit bars or biscotti bars - may contain nuts, egg and soya
  • Prawn crackers - prawns (shellfish) and peanuts

If a child has items in their box that we can identify as containing nuts, sesame or shellfish, these will remain in their box (unopened) and sent home.

If you have any questions, please ask and we can provide advice.

24.2.24 Absences

Please can you always email with an authorised reason for absence if your child is absent for their funded hours.

Even if you call on the day of absence, please follow this up with an email.

Authorised absences are for sickness, medical appointments, new school appointments and holidays.  Holidays over two-weeks will need to be authorised by the Local Authority.  Other absences are considered on a case by case basis and the Local Authority might be consulted.

The Local Authority may need to be contacted if there are persistent absences including those that fall into a pattern of absences.

We will be audited and we will have to present correspondence from you to justify any absence during funded hours.  So that the Local Authority don’t withdraw your funding from any days of absence, which means we have to charge you, please make sure that we have an email.

Please provide at least one month notice for any planned absences and we won’t charge you our fees.  Funded hours are still claimed.

17.01.24 Childhood Illnesses

We completely understand the need for parents to be in work and to continue with their daily responsibilities, but if you have a poorly child, please pause and consider the potential impact on other families within our setting.

Any child vomiting or having diarrhoea before coming to our Nursery School must be kept away from the setting for 48 hours after the last time they vomit or have diarrhoea.

If your child vomits or has diarrhoea whilst in the setting, they will be isolated and we will contact you to take them home.

If a sibling is poorly, it is highly likely that they too will become poorly.  So, siblings should stay at home also for 48 hours.

In the past, we have had to close our setting for up to 72 hours due to a sickness bug which spread to multiple children.  If multiple children or staff vomit or have diarrhoea, we won’t hesitate to close.

The only way to keep our setting running smoothly is for all families to consider the impact of their actions.
