Early Years Pupil Preimum

The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School EYPP

The Tots' Clubhouse Nursery School follows the Government requirements for the allocation of the EYPP.  For many families, this enables access to additional learning opportunities for their child.

Each child has individual needs, interests and development needs, which are being met through the purchase of activities that are not provided under the Early Years Statutory Framework. For example, there is no requirement for a qualified teacher with specialist training to support the child with his speech and language development. However, this is provided as an ‘Extra Optional Activity’. Other examples are given below.

Extra Optional Activities for individual needs, interests and development needs, for example:

  • Speech and Language support including Wellcom assessments and teaching support.
  • Sounds and Reading Scheme – www.ransom.co.uk/books/our-series/ransom-reading-stars.html
  • (phonic knowledge development and pre-school reading skills).
  • Audio and Visual Learning Experiences – Moo Music www.moo-music.co.uk (music and movement).
  • Role-Play Resources – dressing-up, puppets, musical theatre sessions (self-expression).
  • Rewards Systems – sticker charts, stickers, certificates, rewards (academic achievement).
  • Yoga sessions for mindfulness calming www.mummyandbabybuddies.co.uk.
  • Trips for extending language and experiences e.g. Zoo visits.

We allocate the EYPP on a case by case basis, for example:

  • Case 1: Child who needs speech and language support - our Time to Talk and Wellcomm trained specialist teacher will work with this child to develop their speech and language capabilities.  This child will also take part in the phonics and reading programme as well as our music and movement specialist activities.
  • Case 2: Child who needs to experience the world and who needs physical activity - we will plan a range of trips and visitors to engage with this child to stimulate physical activity and engagement in the wider world.
  • Case 3:  Child has no reading materials at home - our literacy specialist will provide a lending library of books for the family to share at home.  This child will also take part in our reading programme and take home a reading book as often as they can read.

The Government requirement for the spending of the EYPP is given in the EYPP:

Guide for Local Authorities (6 March 2025) accessible via this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-pupil-premium-guide-for-local-authorities/early- years-pupil-premium-guide-for-local-authorities

Use of EYPP Funding:

This guidance is passed to Warwickshire County Council in the contract with The Tots’ Clubhouse Nursery School as follows (page 24):

Early Years settings should ensure EYPP funding is used to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged children by spending on activities, staff training and resources that specifically impact educational outcomes for disadvantaged children. They should plan EYPP spending based on consideration of well-evidenced approaches such as professional development for staff, which may benefit all children while providing the greatest benefit to disadvantaged children.

Further information on EYPP spending is given by the Education Endowment fund:
